| Welcome.
Cradled in a loop of the
magnificent River Lot and
historically set at a vibrant
crossroads of the
Roman empire, Cahors
blossomed in the
medieval period to
become the cultural and architectural jewel we see today.
The flavours of the past
permeate the narrow
meandering alleyways
challenging us with many
historic wonders, such as
the Cathedral, the Arch
of Diana and the stunning
medieval bridge, Pont Valentre.
These are complimented by the
equally fascinating, but more recent,
Museum of the Resistance.
Now the flavours of the present can
be experienced in the daily covered market, Les Halles, a
mere truffle’s throw from the
hotel and the twice weekly
open-air market which
surrounds us with the
scents, colours and
tastes of the local
Quercy produce.
On foot, Cahors has always been
a very important stage on the
ancient pilgrim route to Santiago
de Compostelle – only fifty
days stroll away.
Throughout the year Cahors
pulsates with numerous artistic
activities - exhibitions, musical
events, theatre, street markets
and festivals of all sorts.
With origins dating back to
Roman times, Cahors is
the centre of its renowned
AOC wine area. These
robust red wines and the
more delicate roses and
whites, compliment the
many gastronomic specialities
of the old province of Quercy.
The Hotel de la Paix is ideally situated to
provide visitors with the perfect base for
savouring this very special unspoiled part
of the south west of France. Truly one of
France’s best kept secrets.
We look forward to welcoming you to the
Hotel de la Paix at the heart of old Cahors.
